It's 41°C in Madrid and People Are Cooking Eggs on Balconies
Not a metaphor. Someone actually posted a video. Europe is cooking.
My weather app looks offended.
Early June and we’ve already got records falling across southern Europe. Madrid hit 41. Rome isn’t far behind. Even London - yes, grey London - hit 34 and the tube became a wellness hazard.
The egg-on-balcony video got fact-checked. Apparently it works. That’s not comforting.
Hospitals are prepping for heatstroke cases. Power grids are wobbling under AC demand. Ice cream trucks are running out of stock before 3pm like it’s a concert.
If you’re traveling: drink water like it’s your job. Don’t hike at noon because an influencer did. Check on older neighbors.
Climate scientists are saying “we warned you” without much satisfaction. Politicians are saying “stay safe” without much detail.
Forecast shows a slight cool-down next week. Slight. Not a victory lap.
Stay inside during peak hours if you can. And please - do not leave kids or pets in parked cars. Every year, somehow, we still need to say this.
