Wolverine Is Out - Bloody, Rated 18, and Carrying PlayStation's Whole Year
Marvel's Wolverine hits PS5 Sep 15. Insomniac goes visceral instead of Spider-Man colorful. PEGI 18 gamble. Sony's biggest first-party swing of 2026 after rough launches elsewhere.
The claws are no longer a trailer beat. They are a download.
Marvel’s Wolverine landed on PS5 on September 15 - Insomniac’s swing away from friendly neighborhood swing-physics into something closer, bloodier, and deliberately less colorful. Creative director talk ahead of launch kept circling the same idea: Logan is not Peter. Everything got more grounded, more contact, more rage.
The gamble
PEGI 18 / mature rating shrinks the audience on purpose. Sony is betting adult Wolverine sells like adult Deadpool did at the movies. After soft first-party stretches elsewhere this year, this is the big one on the calendar before the holiday crush and GTA VI steal oxygen in November.
Reviews were already arguing in public: slick combat, strong character work, hand-holding complaints already memed to death. Launch day does not care about discourse. Launch day cares if people press buy.
The magazine read
Disc in the tray. Claws out. Rated for grown-ups. PlayStation’s year just got louder.
