Mourinho Brought Photos to the Presser - Then Torched the Madrid Derby Refs
Atletico 2-1 Real. Mourinho waved tackle photos for five minutes: two clear reds not given. Huijsen sent off, Grimaldo penalty, David second. Atleti second, Madrid furious.
Some managers do quotes. Jose Mourinho brought props.
After Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid 2-1 on September 21, Mourinho walked into the press conference with printed photos of two first-half tackles - Cristian Romero on Bellingham, Lee Kang-in on Valverde - and spent nearly five minutes saying the match story was already on the paper. Two clear reds, he said. Instead Real went down to ten when Dean Huijsen fouled Giuliano Simeone. Grimaldo scored the penalty. Jonathan David made it two. Ruediger headed a late consolation.
The standings slap
Atleti jumped to second on 16 points. Madrid slipped behind. Mourinho hugged his players for a first half full of character, then roasted the referee appointment like it was a personal insult.
