The Dinosaurs Beat Paw Patrol - But Spider-Man Still Owns the Mall

The dinosaurs won the weekend’s weirdest cage match. They still lost the mall.

The End of Oak Street opened August 14, 2026 and pulled roughly $21 million domestic - good for No. 3. More fun: it beat PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie in the prehistoric lobby war. Adult suburbia horror with teeth outran the toddler brand with the same mascot energy. Hollywood summer, 2026 edition.

The cast that sold the scream

Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor lead. David Robert Mitchell - It Follows guy - wrote and directed. Bad Robot is on the banner. That is prestige dread wearing a blockbuster jacket, and audiences smelled it. The pitch still works in one breath: dinosaurs move next door and your cul-de-sac stops being a ZIP code and starts being a hunting ground.

Budget sat in the $80-92 million range. Opening at ~$21M domestic is not a Spidey-sized fireworks show. It is a clean start for a fresh IP that does not need a decade of homework. Overseas added about $26 million. Worldwide opening lands near $47 million. For a new creature brand sharing the multiplex with a cultural weather system in red and blue, that is a respectable roar.

Spidey still collects rent

Nobody is confusing Oak Street for the weekend king. Spider-Man: Brand New Day stayed No. 1 with about $71 million on its third weekend. That is not “holding well.” That is owning the building while new neighbors unpack.

The chart read like a museum gift shop collision: Spidey on top, other titles fighting for oxygen, and two dinosaur movies somehow arguing in the same popcorn line. PAW Patrol took the family lane. Oak Street took the date-night screamers. Same lobby. Different nightmares.

Why this one sticks

Most dino movies put you behind a park fence that fails on schedule. Mitchell puts the fence through your living-room window. Hathaway and McGregor play people who thought the biggest block drama was the HOA. Then the tree line changes. Then something walks out of it.

Critics already liked the vibe on the way in - Certified Fresh heat, atmosphere before CGI flex. Opening weekend numbers say enough people bought the ticket to keep the conversation alive into week two. Legs matter more than a one-night spike when you are not the Spidey movie.

The magazine read

Oak Street did what it needed to do. Beat the cartoon dinos. Clear ~$21M at home. Add ~$26M abroad. Leave the room with a story people can text in one line. Spidey still owns the mall. The new neighbors just proved they can make noise.

If your street went quiet this weekend, maybe check the blinds. Or do not.
