B-52 Crashed in California - 8 on Board, Survivors Likely None

While the world talks about the Iran deal and G7 in Evian, news from California landed that makes your blood run cold.

A US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in California. Eight people were on board. According to preliminary command data, there are no survivors.

Edwards Air Force Base posted on social media: “Initial data indicates the crash is likely not survivable.” Drone footage shows almost nothing left of the aircraft.

What we know so far:

  • the B-52 is a legendary strategic bomber capable of carrying nuclear and conventional weapons
  • it crashed soon after takeoff, before gaining altitude
  • the airfield is closed, incoming flights are being diverted
  • whether the aircraft was armed - not disclosed, investigation underway

Aviation expert Jeff Guzzetti points to a likely flight control problem: incorrect rudder settings after maintenance, engine failure, or a malfunction of test equipment on board.

Edwards is one of the US Air Force’s main test bases. Prototypes, new systems, heavy aircraft fly here. A B-52 crash at a site like this is not “somewhere in a field” - it’s a blow to the heart of American military aviation.

While families wait for official names, the base is focused on the rescue operation and investigation. The world was reminded again: even machines that have flown for half a century and survived the Cold War are not immune to the seconds after takeoff.
