Call of Duty used to arrive like weather. Today it arrived like a receipt.

Modern Warfare 4 is out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. The sticker is $69.99. There is no PS4 version and no Xbox One version. Activision was plain about the other door too: the game is a standalone purchase, and it does not join Game Pass until Holiday 2027. Ultimate subscribers still have Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare III. The new one is extra.

The campaign early access had people unusually kind. By launch morning Steam’s page was Very Positive, about 89 percent of a few thousand reviews. The praise clusters on the single-player: a Korean peninsula invasion, Captain Price missions that players keep comparing to a fight film, and a story that actually kills people. Multiplayer is the argument, mostly about controller aim assist and the shared launcher. DMZ, the extraction mode, split the room the way extraction modes always do. TechSpot had clocked the campaign-only reviews even higher, near 94 percent, before the rest of the game became the conversation. That number was always going to move once everyone could queue.

The odd trophy is the Switch 2 port. Nintendo Life scored it 9 out of 10 and said Digital Legends shipped the whole package: campaign at 30 frames, multiplayer aimed at 60, crossplay, cross-progression, no chopped modes. It is the first Call of Duty on a Nintendo machine in more than a decade, day and date with the other boxes. A 9 from a junket build is still a 9 you should squint at. The fact that the sentence can be written at all is the news.

Season 1 is the next shove. Warzone folds MW4 in then, and the old PlayStation 4 and Xbox One clients stop. Until that patch, the only decision is the boring one Activision already printed: if you want in this weekend, you pay.
