You Can Play the New Street Fighter Movie Trailer on YouTube - Hadouken Included

Movie trailers usually ask one thing: sit still and watch.

The new Street Fighter movie said: fight your way through it.

Paramount and Legendary kicked off the World Warrior Tour in Tokyo on September 1 with something studios claim is the first playable full-length movie trailer on YouTube. Not a minigame ad. Not a QR code scavenger hunt. The trailer itself - inside a virtual arcade cabinet with a CRT filter - becomes a Combo Challenge through YouTube Playables.

How it actually works

Use arrow keys plus A, S, and D to punch, kick, and throw specials. Yes, including hadouken inputs. Back away from the cabinet and you can look around the room - posters, vending machine, the whole retro shrine setup. It is marketing, but it is marketing that respects why people loved the game in the first place.

Cast on the Tokyo rollout included Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, Jason Momoa (Blanka energy, obviously), director Kitao Sakurai, and Capcom’s Takayuki Nakayama. The film opens October 16.

Why this is more fun than it had to be

Most game-to-film promos feel embarrassed by the source material. This one leans in hard enough to make you grin even if you think the Oscar odds are zero. Push Square called it Dragon’s Lair-style - watch, react, miss the timing, try again. That is exactly the vibe.

Will the movie be great? Unknown. Will the trailer gimmick make you feel like a kid at an arcade who just stole another quarter from your mom’s purse? Absolutely.

The magazine read

Playable trailer. YouTube. Hadouken. Momoa. Tokyo screens. Oct 16 release. Marketing that finally understands the assignment.
