Trump: Iran Deal Complete, Hormuz Opens - Signing June 19
Ships of the World, start your engines. Blockade lifted, oil will flow again. Official signing in Switzerland - according to Pakistan.
Three months of war, hundreds of strikes, oil in panic - and suddenly the wording markets were waiting for: the deal is done.
Donald Trump said the peace agreement between the US and Iran is complete. On social media he wrote verbatim:
I hereby fully sanction the unobstructed opening of the Strait of Hormuz and simultaneously sanction the immediate lifting of the naval blockade of Iran by the United States Navy. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who acted as mediator, clarified: official signing is scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland (according to several sources - Geneva). Before that - technical meetings and preparation for demining the strait.
What the framework deal promises:
- immediate and permanent cessation of hostilities, including in Lebanon
- lifting of the American naval blockade of Iranian ports
- opening of Hormuz - about 20% of global oil and LNG passes through it
- 60 days for talks on the nuclear program and final terms
- according to a draft from Iranian media - unfreezing assets (talk of $24 billion), easing sanctions on oil
Markets reacted instantly: oil futures went down, investors exhaled.
But there are caveats:
- Tehran is cautious - «signing date is not final»
- Israel criticizes the deal - strikes on Lebanon continued even on the day of the announcement
- Democrats in the US Congress call the document «an act of capitulation»
- full return of tankers to Hormuz could take weeks - mines, destroyed infrastructure, trust
Trump posted on his 80th birthday. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi says the memorandum text is agreed.
If signing happens on June 19 - it’s the loudest geopolitical turn of the year. If it falls apart - Trump has already promised peace with Iran forty times, skeptics joke.
For now - «start your engines». The world is listening.
