Control Resonant Just Became Remedy's Fastest Million-Seller Ever
The sequel sold more than 1 million copies in about three weeks after its Sept 24 digital launch. Alan Wake 2 needed roughly two months. Physical editions hit shelves Oct 15, and the studio says the game pays back around 3–4 million.
Remedy has spent years being the studio that gets respect and then waits for the sales chart to catch up. Control Resonant did not wait.
The Finnish studio announced on October 15 that the sequel had sold more than one million copies worldwide on PS5, Xbox Series and PC. Digital launch was September 24. That is about three weeks. Alan Wake 2, the previous pace-setter, needed roughly two months to hit the same mark. Physical Standard and SteelBook editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series arrived the same day as the announcement. A Mac version is still due later this year.
You play as Dylan Faden in a reality-warped Manhattan, swinging a shapeshifting melee weapon called the Aberrant through a paranatural crisis. Creative director Mikael Kasurinen thanked both the people who waited for plastic and the people already inside the warped city. CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon called it Remedy’s first self-published release of this scale, dropped into one of the year’s most crowded windows, and said the studio has always believed Control deserved a bigger audience. The original Control took fifteen months to reach two million by the end of 2020 and has since passed six million.
Earlier, Remedy said full cost recovery sits around three to four million copies. One million in three weeks does not finish that math. It does change the mood of the conversation. Two franchises, Control and Alan Wake, now look like businesses as well as cults. That is the quieter win underneath the million.
